Have you ever thought how the Earth would look like with 100 percent of the energy needs to come from renewable sources? Well, if you did I bet you didn’t image that this would happen by 2090! The European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) and Greenpeace have developed a scenario which would need large investments and carbon legislation, but it would completely remove our use of fossil fuels.
The scenario is called the Energy [R]evolution Report and it says that by 2050 the hard part will be completed and we will use mostly solar and wind power. As nuclear power will be removed, the four renewable primary sources will be solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass fuel like ethanol.
According to the report, the world will look drastically different with solar panels on every rooftop, “refurbished” old buildings, and wind turbines where the wind is most “violent”. Also, we will need greener building techniques and the structures of the future will be a sightseeing pleasure as their design will be unbelievable.
The only problem is that EREC and Greenpeace expect the energy usage to go down, however, in fast-developing countries like Asian countries, coal factories pop-up weekly. Well, the report mentions that the energy usage will drop as the efficiency will rise meaning that we will use less energy, but with a high efficiency.
I know this may seem like an unrealistic scenario, but I think it’s encouraging. Please read the Energy [R]evolution Report [PDF alert] and maybe you will contribute to the CO2-emission cut down.
