CDM Publishes Sustainability Performance Report

CDM announces the publication of its sustainability performance report. The report—presented only online—reflects the firm's approaches, actions, and ongoing commitment to sustainability for the company, clients, and the communities where CDM's employees live and work.

In this Web-based report, CDM communicates the issues that are of most concern to stakeholders, structuring information around four key areas: clients and projects, employees, communities, and internal operations. The report provides operational metrics and measures, and it features case studies that illustrate sustainable solutions for clients.

More than 60 years ago, CDM co-founder Thomas Camp left his professorship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to start a consulting practice dedicated to improving public health, protecting the environment, and supporting social and economic development. "Throughout our history, CDM's greatest contributions to sustainability have been through the projects we deliver in collaboration with our clients, and we remain committed to providing solutions that improve economic vitality, environmental value, and quality of life," states Richard D. Fox, CDM Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. "Sustainability has been a part of CDM since our founding and is a philosophy embedded in every facet of our organization and fundamental to every project we undertake."

In addition to showcasing client projects, the report highlights efforts in improving internal practices. Highlights include: OSHA injury rates that have consistently been better than the national average for our industry; CDM University course offerings that provided an average of 13 hours of training per employee and delivered more than 22,400 hours of online education; nearly half a million dollars invested in educational opportunities for minorities in engineering and science and development of future business leaders; incorporating Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) criteria in office renovations and relocations; and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through such actions as fuel-efficient corporate vehicles, video conferencing facilities, and partnering with ZipCar.

CDM's sustainability performance report is one tool in a continual process that balances business opportunities with social, economic, and environmental responsibilities, and serves as an instrument in communicating the firm's actions, successes, and challenges.
